Academic Practice
I have lectured in animation for almost ten years and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I run modules with a studio focus, replicating animation studio models and pipelines at undergraduate level.
I have tutored students who are now working in the animation industry as part of globally recognised animation studios and productions.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in my experience as Dual-Professional, acting as industry practitioner and expert educator. Informed by my professional experience I take a pragmatic approach toward teaching and, as originally outlined by John Dewey, with an emphasis on the student as an active learner.

My teaching, aligned with the design process, invites students to participate in problem solving, with the design brief as catalyst to inquiry and concept development. I emphasise individuality in my approach to teaching, where students can explore their own areas of interest, guided by subject knowledge and skill of method.
Within the animation discipline I believe that design for animation should be in service of the visual story and that animation methods and design techniques should work to communicate narratives effectively and with clarity.
